Trip of First Lady and authorities in Ivory Coast
During the past two weeks, we had as guests to the First Lady of the Ivory Coast, Mrs. Simone Ehivet Gbagbo, the Minister of Reconciliation, Mr. Sebastien Dano Djedje, the President of Grand Bassam, Simone, and an entourage of twenty people.
They certainly have a lot of interest in the project that we are doing in Grand Bassam. In fact, their trip to our country was solely to enhance the cause. Therefore, the numerous meetings we had during these busy days were helpful for putting all the bases of the needed work and the project preparation. Also, apart from other meetings, there were a series of visits which we summarize very briefly.
On the 26th October the Solidary Golf Match was held that morning in Madrid, at the premises of the Spanish Golf Federation, both in attendance and in participation of athletes and journalists (both teams were competing) and it was a real success. In the afternoon, after lunch, we organized a visit to the Senate (perfectly coordinated by Senator Mr. Josep Maldonado) and an institutional reception by the President of the Senate, Javier Rojo. The delegation of the Ivory Coast came out very satisfied with these visits.
On Wednesday 28th October, we organized a business meeting at the House of the Duchess of Alba in Madrid, The Palace of Liria, and it resulted to be highly positive due to the attendance of renowned entrepreneurs to try to steer potential investments in the Ivory Coast. It was chaired by Don Cayetano Martinez de Irujo and the First Lady. We spoke personally with the Minister for Industry, Miguel Sebastian, in order to know the details of the encounter and for him to coordinate it somehow.
Once this meeting ended, we went to Almeria, where on Thursday 29th, we were received in their university by the rector Pedro Molina, where a collaboration agreement with the University of Almeria was signed. In it is specified the collaboration of the University of Almería (apart from offering three scholarships for the project) which would get involved with other actions that will be materialize soon between this Andalusian University and by the Government of the Ivory Coast.
We also visited several types of greenhouses and a commercial cooperative (CASI) as a possible model to implement in Grand Bassam. We were also received at the City Hall of Almería, by Mayor Luis Rogelio Rodríguez Comendador, who told about his willingness to support the project and organize the twinning with the City of Grand Bassam.
In the following days, as a request of the First Lady, we visited Cordoba and Toledo, being helpful for attending new meetings and encounters which were very productive. The different receptions to which we attended, culminated on Saturday 30th at the 'Palco de Honor' of the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, where we attended to the soccer match of the Real Madrid, being able to greet afterwards part of its galactic team in the best places in Madrid.
Certainly, these were almost marathon days for the intensity of the working sessions, interspersed with visits and receptions of the highest level, but which have given a new boost to the project, of which the Government of Ivory Coast is a strong collaborator and supporter.
